On 6 October 2016 ,Sundar made his first debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy. In October 2017 , he managed to score century in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy .He played for Tamil Nadu against Tripura .His big break was his selection in U-19 team for the 2016 Under-19 World Cup. - In November 2017, Washington Sundar got selected for India‘s T20 series squad against Sri Lanka. He has played as a substitute player when Kedar Jadhav suffered from injury in ODI. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on 13 December 2017. Lahiru Thirimanne became the first trap of his wicketkeeping .
